Directions for the day:
Head south on the Great Southern Highway through Beverley to Brookton (66km).
At Brookton turn east on the Brookton-Corrigin Road (89km to Corrigin).
Continue through Corrigin and turn right onto the Conigin-Kondinin Road (48km to Kondinin).
At Kondinin continue heading east on the Kondinin-Hyden Road (60km to Hyden).

Some history
The town of Hyden is in the heart of the semi-arid eastern wheat belt. It is a small agricultural town of 150 people, established in the 1920's as a wheat production centre.

Things to see

• We are travelling through part of WA's Heartlands district today. It is renowned for the diversity of wildflowers in spring - WA has over 9000 named and 2000 unnamed wildflower species, and has one of the richest floras in the world. 75% of wildflowers are unique to this particular region.
• Wave Rock, 4km east of Hyden, is a 2700 million year old granite outcrop, 100m long and rises 15m. The vertical bands of colour are caused by algal growth. There are other rock formations within walking distance of Wave Rock - The Falls, Hippos Yawn, The Breakers.
