Directions for the day: Continue due east on the Barrier Highway. At Nyngan we head south east on the Mitchell Highway to Dublin.

Some history
Today we leave the Outback and are travelling through areas that are much more closely settled. Nyngan has a population of 2,240 and is located on the Bogan River. It is the centre of the wheat, wool and sheep region. The famous Macquarie Marshes are 64km north of the town.

Narromine has a population of 3,400 and is on the Macquarie River. It is known for the quality of fruit, vegetables, lamb, beef and cotton that it produces. It is also a well-known gliding and ultra-light flying area.

Dubbo has a population of 30,000 and is also located on the banks of the Macquarie River. It is the regional capital of western NSW.

Things to see

• Old Dubbo Gaol in Macquarie Street, Dubbo
• Western Plains Zoo in Dublin -you can hire a bike to ride around the Zoo, or we can ride in style in the Bradfords. Animals are kept in free-range enclosures in a 300hectare area. It is 5km out of Dubbo and is a fantastic Zoo.
