  Some history
Wilcannia was proclaimed in 1864, and was a key inland port in the days of the paddle-steamers. It is on the banks of the Darling River, and has a population of 680.
Cobar is a mining town with a population of 4,500. Copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold are mined here, and since water has been channelled into the town, it has become an oasis. There are three major mines operating. Located at the crossroads of Kidman Way and Barrier Highway
